Author-In-Residence

CONCEPT: The Author-In-Residence program offers an opportunity for children in every school within a school board/district to engage with a real-life author of novels and children’s stories.

COMMITMENT/QUALIFICATION: The commitment would include an author visit to participating schools in the district school board over the determined period of residence. Longer engagements are possible depending on the number of participating schools. The author is a lifelong educator and researcher with expertise in reading & writing skill-building through strategies that enhance student learning. These strategies inspire and encourage children to read and write with enthusiasm.

STRATEGY/OPPORTUNITIES: The author would employ one or more of the following strategies/activities when engaging with students and teachers, influenced and determined by the school’s Principal and Teacher(s):

  • Classroom presentation/ interaction & engagement with students/teacher
  • Large group divisional presentation/interaction (junior/intermediate/and/or senior)
  • Student workshops on developing writing skills, ideas, short stories and novels

Teacher workshops* including but not exclusive to:

  • Reading & Responding Strategies
  • The Reading Workshop
  • The Writing Process

*Separate cost for teacher workshop – usually held outside of classroom time

COST(S) FOR AUTHOR-IN-RESIDENCE: Book purchases by each school, only!

 

Author-In-The-Classroom

CONCEPT: Author in the Classroom program provides the opportunity for children in every school to engage with a real-life author of novels and children’s stories.

 The Author in the Classroom would include an author visit to participating schools. Paul Toffanello is a lifelong educator and researcher with expertise in writer’s workshops, reading response strategies, and assessments that enhance student learning & achievement.

 STRATEGY/OPPORTUNITIES: In conjunction with the school Principal/Vice Principal, the author would offer one or more of the following:

  • Classroom presentation/ interaction & engagement with students/teacher
  • Large group divisional presentation/interaction (junior/intermediate)

Teacher workshops* including but not exclusive to:

  • The Reading/Writing Workshop
  • The Writing Process
  • *Separate cost for teacher workshop

COST(S) FOR AUTHOR-IN-THE-CLASSROOM: No Presentation Fee!! School book purchases, only!
